Early years of Oneself Magazine
A native of the Hart Beat (Hartford, Connecticut) Dyshann P. Anderson always was driven to shine a light on the cities many "jewels" who resided in and around the urban hip-hop driven communities. Always the recipient of art awards throughout grade school, Dyshann Anderson recognized the beauty and talent in those who had been written off by society and whose artistry in hip-hop was considered artistically meager . Thus while in his senior year at New Britain High School the thought of Oneself was born. Soon after, Dyshann Anderson enrolled Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, CT to develop his inspirational hip-hop magazine.
Lead by a promising future in football Dyshann Anderson had tentatively focused on his athletic and collegic career at Southern. Perhaps fate, some say, had to step in again when Anderson was the victim of a hit and run that resulted in his transferred to Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), in Savannah, GA. It was here that Dyshann Anderson gained a reputation as a freelancer in fine arts, event planning, market strategy and promotions. He has since had the opportunity to share his skills and talents for such prestigious organizations such as ESPN and Aquastone Graphix while developing a street buzz for independent rap artists and producers, a setting the foundation for Oneself Magazine in 2000.

Released in 2004, the first issue of Oneself hit the streets with none other than the infamous DJ Craig G who keeps hip-hop live in streets and at the clubs. Artists such as Lloyd Banks, Nik Pace, Miguel Perdomo, Pharaoh Monch and Cheri Dennis have since graced the cover and pages of Oneself Magazine. With a current circulation of over 100,000, Dyshann Anderson continues to promote and sponsor shows with artist Lloyd Banks of G Unit and many others to get the word out that Oneself is here for the people who make "things" happen.
